How These Cases Are Built, Checked and Reviewed

How the model-validation cases are built, what the checks prove and do not prove, and the current review status.

What these cases are

The model-validation series is eight synthetic cases: a company, a capital project, an equity valuation, a bond portfolio, a derivatives book, a return series, a portfolio and a private equity fund. Each case starts from a source document — two PDFs, a one-page memo, a term-sheet image, a position report, a price file or a two-page fund summary. The companies, funds and portfolios are constructed; no real client file is used.

How they are built and checked

Each case is built in Excel from its source document. Inputs are named cells, calculations are kept separate from outputs, and every analytic quantity is computed a second time by a route that does not reuse the first. The checks are assertions in the workbook, not a separate review document: they run on every recalculation. Some source figures were read by OCR; the checks do not compare a transcribed figure back to the source document.

What the checks do not prove

A passing check means two values agree within a stated tolerance. It proves the arithmetic and the wiring of the model; it does not prove that the inputs are right, that the market convention is right, or that the case resembles a real company. The limits sheet in each workbook states what the case does not cover.

Review status and corrections

These cases are built and checked internally by Mica. They have not been independently audited or reviewed by a third party. The checks demonstrate internal consistency; they are not an audit opinion.

If you find an error, email service@mindlink.tools and we will log the correction. If an independent review is completed in future, this page will record the reviewer, the scope and the date; until then, no claim of independent review is made.
